Microsoft Frontpage 2003 Tutorial

    Create a New Project

    • On your desktop, right click anywhere and then left click "New" and "New Folder." Input the name of your website and click the "Enter" key. This folder will contain your entire website and will make it easy to publish your site.

Open Frontpage 2003 and click on the "New Page" icon located just beneath "File" on the command menu. You will see a "new_page_1.htm" tab where you will add your website elements. Before you do that, click on "File" and then "Save As" to input a name for your page. Once you have named it, save it into the folder you created on your desktop.

Note that if you want this new page to be your home (primary) website page, name the page "index.html." You will be able to tie index.html to your website domain such as "yourwebsite.com." Every time someone types "yourwebsite.com," they will be directed to your "index.html" page.

    Add Page Elements

    • If you do not have HTML coding experience then use the "Design" view, located in the bottom-left corner of your screen. This will allow you to edit your Web page as easily as you would edit a document with Microsoft Word.

To change the page properties of your Web page, right click anywhere in the "index.html" page and then left click "Page Properties". Within "Page Properties," navigate to the formatting tab and choose your background colors and hyperlink color preferences. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Add text to your "index.html" page by typing anywhere within the "Design" view. Format your text by using the formatting menu bar located at the top of the screen or by highlighting your text, right clicking on the text and then left clicking on "Font" to set your font preferences.

Add a photo to your "index.html" page by clicking "Insert" in the command menu at the top of the page, followed by "Picture" and then "From File." Browse to your new image location, select your image and click "OK." Once your image is inserted, you can center it using the formatting menu bar located at the top of the screen, similarly to how you would center text on the page.

    Publish

    • Once you have built your page, save it one last time and prepare to upload it to your Web hosting site. Click "File" and then "Publish Site" to start the publishing process. You will be asked for information including your hosting site Web address, your user name and your password. Once your credentials are confirmed, your Web page will be published online.
