How to Style Your Bump for New York Fashion Week

What to Wear

I almost skipped Fashion Week this season. Running around New York City in high heels did not really sound fun nor did the insane amount of work that needed to be done before, during and after. But I braved it anyway, one last hoorah and one last fling with New York City before becoming a mom to three and taking it easy for a while. My reluctance caused me to not only pack in an hour, the day before but to head out with only a carry on.

I am sure that a carry on for Fashion Week is up heard of, but dressing the bump is easier than it seems. Here is what I wore for the few days I was in town.

White After Labor Day

I wore this linen dress on Labor Day with sandals and curls. I decided to transition it for fall by adding a leather jacket, boyfriend jeans and wedges. The "rule" of not wearing white after  Labor Day is a dated one. The new rule just happens to be that there isn't any. It was a long day so a red lip and black sunglasses helped me look and feel polished.

Glamourous

I wanted to look a bit more polished than edgy for a few meetings that took place on Madison Ave, so I dressed up a bit on one of the warmest days. This lightweight dress from Kinwolfe was the perfect option as well as addition to my maternity wardrobe. This perfect lightweight silk crepe de chine stunner is also perfect for after baby with front and side breast-feeding and pumping access.

The "Fake" Heels

I had dinner with an editor I have worked with a lot in the past who asked how it was possible to wear heels while pregnant. When I showed him my shoes he brushed it off and said, "okay, well, those are like, fake heels." Funny but true and yes, these wedges from JcPenney were comfortable enough to walk around in, even if I did carry flats in my bag.

The Unexpected Professional

I wanted a classic yet semi-casual look for a few shows across town. While I wore wedges, and comfortable ones, I did swap them out for a pair of Converse sneakers. A leather flared midi worn high on the waist screamed fall and I paired it with a long sleeve button up from Pea in a Pod Maternity that could be worn so many different ways this season.

Accessorize Properly

A bold necklace in gold was a great idea to dress up such a semi-casual look. I also wore a vintage silver bag and had fun mixing metals.

Since I had packed last minute after all, this was an after thought in the packing process. I had this loose fitting linen silk blend dress in my closet and grabbed it on the way out. It just so happened to be my favorite look. However, you could not see a bump at all. I had to hold my bump for people to realize this momma is expecting, a great look for someone in the early stages, not ready to announce.

A few months ago, pre-bump, I was invited to the launch of Shoes of Prey at Nordstrom in the chicago suburb of Oakbrook. It was a fun and creative process of designing your own shoe and what better place to debut these beauties than at New York Fashion Week.

How would you glam up your bump during one of the chicest times to be pregnant? Would you do this any day back home?
