Specifications for the Garmin StreetPilot

    • The original StreetPilot in Garmin Ltd.'s StreetPilot family is discontinued and no longer sold by the company. It is a GPS device: It combines global positioning satellite system tracking technology with electronic maps to help you navigate in an automobile to essentially anywhere on the continent. The StreetPilot series works with reference base maps that show highways and streets in every area of North America. Optional CD-ROMs are available to provide detailed information for specific areas.

    Base Map

    • A Garmin StreetPilot's base map provides details on local streets, national and state highways, interstate freeways, lakes, rivers, coastlines, airports and other landmarks. You can zoom in or out on the electronic maps to see the map in scales as narrow as 500 feet and as wide as 5,000 miles.

    Navigation

    • You can save up to 100 waypoints (specific destinations that you program into the device for easy retrieval) on Garmin StreetPilots. Waypoints and points of interest are constantly updated on the map as you drive. You can save up to 20 reversible routes holding up to 30 waypoints each.

    Receiver

    • The Garmin StreetPilot has a 12-parallel-channel receiver that tracks and uses up to 12 GPS satellites to get a fix on your location.

    Acquisition Time

    • When a Garmin StreetPilot is warming up, it takes about 15 seconds to acquire data and about 45 seconds to start up. It takes about five minutes to auto-locate itself. The update rate is once per second on a continuous basis.

    Accuracy

    • The Garmin StreetPilot provides accuracy of 15 meters or 49 feet for positions, and 1 to 5 meters, or 3 to 15 feet, for positions using differential GPS calculations.

    Power

    • Six AA batteries are -- or a 10-32VDc power cord using an optional cigarette lighter adapter is -- required to operate the Garmin StreetPilot. Batteries provide 16 hours of operation.

    Display

    • A Garmin StreetPilot has a backlit 240-by-160-pixel high-contrast grayscale LED display.

    Dimensions

    • The original Garmin StreetPilot measures 3.2 inches by 6.8 inches by 2.2 inches. It weighs 1.2 pounds with batteries.
