Differences Between a Yukon SL, SLE & SLT

In 1992, GMC replaced the Jimmy with a full-sized sporty utility vehicle --- the Yukon. Similar to the Chevrolet Tahoe, the Yukon increased fuel efficiency by incorporating an Active Fuel Management System. The SL, SLE and SLT trim models were all available in 1996 and 1997. In 1997 a two-door, four-wheel drive version of each trim had different standard and optional features. - All trim models are standard with a 5.7L, V-8, OHV, 16V F1 engine, four-speed automatic transmission, remote trunk release, power door locks, tachometer, 16-inch wheels, lighted entry system, power-steering, intermittent windshield wipers and daytime running lights.
While air-conditioning is only optional on the SL trim model, it is standard on the SLE and SLT trims as is the keyless entry feature, tilt steering, alloy wheels, cruise control, privacy glass and a rear window wiper. Both SLE and SLT come standard with power exterior mirror, leather steering wheel, auto-dim rear view mirror and a roof rack.
Bucket seats are standard with both SL and SLT trims but only optional for the SLE as it comes standard with a front split bench seat. Vinyl seating is standard on the SL trim while cloth seating is standard for the SLE and leather for the SLT.
Standard audio systems are AM/FM stereo for the SL; AM/FM/Cassette for the SLE; and AM/FM/Cassette/CD for the SLT. Optional on all trims are the rear window defroster, running boards, a skid plate and locking differential. The SLT trim model is the only one that comes standard with center and overhead consoles. - All SL, SLE and SLT trim models have the same exterior and interior dimensional measurements. They are 188 inches long, 73 inches high and 77.1 inches wide with a wheel base of 111.5 inches. The gross weight of the Yukon is 6,250 lb and has an 8-inch ground clearance. There are 39.9 inches in the front headroom and 37.8 inches in the rear headroom. Legroom in the front is 41.7 inches and 36.4 inches in the back. It has a luggage capacity of 51.6 cubic feet and seats a maximum of six people.
- All trim models come standard with a four-wheel anti-lock brake system as well as driver and passenger front airbags. Each trim model has been given a four-star passenger and driver crash test rating. Each comes with three-year/36,000 mile basic, drivetrain and roadside warranties. The rust warranty is six-year/100,000 miles.
