What Are the Dangers of Lumbar Cushions in Car Seats?

    Vibration

    • Lumbar cushions come in different sizes and designs. Some of the designs cannot fit the sizes of drivers with heavy weight. In this case, the cushions do not offer adequate protection from vibrations. Vibration enters the driver's body through the car seat and causes discomfort to the driver. This is because car vibrations on rough roads affect the spine, shoulders.

    Pressure Differences

    • One of the problems drivers and passengers in a car experience is pressure differences that enter the body through the east. Cushion support provides a stable base for proper posture. This needs to be balanced with pressure relief to ensure that no part of the body receives excessive pressure. If pressure on any part of the body becomes too high, it leads to blood flow being cut off, which results in tissue deterioration. Lumbar cushions, because of the way they are designed, are prone to creating this pressure difference or not minimizing it.

    Back Pain

    • The effectiveness of lumbar cushions depends largely on how their inflation. Over-inflation or under-inflation of these cushions causes discomfort because they bring about improper alignment of the lumbar region. If this happens, the driver and other car occupants will develop poor posture, which in turn leads to back pain, strain on the body and fatigue. Fatigued drivers are less alert and cause accidents.

    Weight Limitation

    • Some inflatable lumbar support cushions have weight limitations. This means that they are not able to offer support to people of certain weight. If a driver's weight exceeds the cushion's weight limit, the cushion will expand. Since the expansion may not be enough to accommodate the weight, the pressure change rate increases leading to discomfort.

    Durability

    • Lumbar cushions have a short lifespan, especially those made of foam. When degradation occurs, a seating position that was comfortable when the cushion was new will cause discomfort. Sometimes the cushions may make movement difficult and require great effort to move, causing fatigue.
