Procedures for Disabling Chrysler Airbags
- Begin by opening the vehicle's hood and locating the battery. Remove the ground cable (black) from the battery. On top terminal batteries, loosen the retaining bolt and pull the clamp off the terminal. On side terminal batteries remove the bolt that connects the ground cable to the battery, then pull the cable away from the battery. You must secure the ground cable away from the battery so that it cannot accidentally contact the negative terminal. Do this by wrapping the ground cable clamp with electrical tape, and use a plastic wire tie to secure it away from the battery.
- Wait at least 10 minutes after disconnecting the ground cable from the battery before working on the vehicle. This will allow the airbag system capacitor to completely discharge and will eliminate the risk of having the airbag accidentally discharge while you are working on the vehicle. After waiting 10 minutes you may proceed with your repair.
