How to Lay Herringbone Pavers Brick
- 1). Prepare the area where you will be laying the bricks by covering it with several inches of tightly-packed sand.
- 2). Lay the first brick in a corner of the patio area.
- 3). Lay the second brick perpendicular to the first, so that the two bricks form an L shape with the corner of the L in the corner of the patio area.
- 4). Lay the third brick parallel to the first brick but above the second brick, so that the center of the third brick is even with the end of the first brick.
- 5). Lay the fourth brick parallel to the second brick, with the center of the fourth brick even with the end of the second brick.
- 6). Fill the spaces that are left between the third and fourth bricks and the edge of the patio with half bricks.
- 7). Continue the pattern that you have created by laying zig-zag rows of bricks all the way across the patio, filling the half spaces that are created at the edges with half bricks.
- 8). Fill in between the bricks with sand when you have completed the entire patio. Compact the bricks and sand with a vibrator, which can be rented at most tool and machinery rental shops.
