Do it Yourself Bedroom Makeover Ideas
- Paint your bedroom walls in a darker shade such as ochre, milk chocolate, deep purple or cinnamon to add warmth to the room. Paint the ceilings and window trim white to give the room some light. Add large wall mirrors to create the illusion of a bigger bedroom and to reflect natural and interior lighting. Decorate large wall spaces with simple, two-toned wall graphic decals, and match the room's accessories to the decals' colors.
- Add low wattage wall light sconces on the walls opposite the mirrors to reflect warm interior lighting. Decorate the windows with valences and curtains that either match or contrast with each other and pick up the colors from a wall graphic decal. Hang the curtains so that you can tie them back or push them out of the way to let in daylight and to show off small, decorative, graphic vinyl clings placed on the windows.
- Put your dresser in a closet, and fill its empty space with a small love seat for reading or a watching a movie. Pull your bed out of the corner, and arrange it so that the headboard forms the bottom of a triangle with the corner. Create another sitting area at the footboard with two oversized suede bean bags. Place low triangular tables on either side of the bed as nightstands. Change the bedding colors with a reversible comforter.
- Beautiful wood floors add warmth and color to any room, including your bedroom. Choose a light-colored floor to contrast with the dark bedroom walls. Stain the wooden door lintels the same color as the floor. Trim floor heating ducts with molding stained the same color. Place thick throw rugs that pick up the wall color on either side of the bed so they will be underfoot when you climb in and out of bed.
