- Residential freezers commonly reach a temperature of zero degrees. At this temperature, venison can be stored for six months. Different cuts of meat will last with optimum freshness for varying periods of time, but at this temperature should not exceed six months of storage.
- Commercial freezers commonly reach temperatures of 70 degrees below zero or colder. At this temperature, venison will stay safe to eat for up to twelve months.
- Most wild game will keep for up to one year without loss of quality in a commercial freezer, and up to six months in a residential freezer. The shorter amount of time the meat is frozen, however, the greater the flavor and tenderness. For the best quality, store meat in a residential freezer for the shortest possible time before preparing.
