Tough Questions to Ask Yourself About Service
•Am I Doing This for the Blessings?
Blessings always come from service. Is that why you are doing it? If it is, you are not doing it for the right reasons.
We should be willing to extend service, whether we personally benefit or not. Chances are we will, but that should not be our prime motivation.
•Am I Doing This Grudingly?
Grudging service is worthless. Scripture is explicit on this point:
For behold, God hath said a man being evil cannot do that which is good; for if he offereth a gift, or prayeth unto God, except he shall do it with real intent it profiteth him nothing.
For behold, it is not counted unto him for righteousness.
For behold, if a man being evil giveth a gift, he doeth it grudgingly; wherefore it is counted unto him the same as if he had retained the gift; wherefore he is counted evil before God.
•How Would I React to Receiving This Service?
What does your service say about you and about them? Are you conveying messages you may not intend?
Is your service telling someone the following: I would not use this myself, but it is good enough for you.
Consider this: How hard is it to give away something you don't want anyway?
We often congratulate ourselves for conveniently disposing of something we no longer have any use for by giving it away. What does this say to a recipient?
How you extend service can be as important as what you do. We should not be reinforcing someone's dependent status or make them feel inferior in any way.
