The Backyard Garden With Outdoor Yard Lighting
The outdoor yard lighting for your front yard will welcome your guests and guide them to your front door.
Your backyard garden is a totally different story where you can be very creative with your lighting.
Your garden is totally different than your neighbors.
You may have trees, vegetable garden, flower garden, pond, spa, deck, or an outdoor living room.
These are all areas that you can install outdoor yard lighting for ambience or spotlighting.
There are several different kinds of lights we can use for the garden; path lights, hedge lights, uplights, downlights, and stairway lights.
Path lights are mainly used to for highlighting a walkway or pathway to guide family and friends safely.
They can be decorative individual lights or rope lights on each side of the path.
Individual lights will usually have a shield to guide the light on the path and not on the person walking the path.
Rope lights can be run along each side of the pathway.
Hedge lights use a broad beam of light for a larger area and are mounted on tall bases to elevate the light away from plants or objects close to the ground.
They are excellent for lighting up hedges or bushes.
Uplights are slender lights that are mounted on stakes that have an upward slant.
These are for lighting trees, fountains, and your favorite statue.
Many of these lights have hoods to hide the side view of the lamp.
Downlights are compact lights with recessed lamps.
They are used for lighting objects on the ground from a tree or mounted high on a wall.
These lights come with brackets for mounting on tree trunks or you can wrap around a trunk with straps.
Stairway lights are small lights that can be mounted to walls next to stairs and will shine a direct light on them for safety.
Your backyard deck lights can be done in a number of ways.
You can have lights mounted on the deck railings or the steps; another way is to place them flush with the deck itself.
If your deck is attached to your house you can run lights along the eaves of the house surrounding the deck.
Now we come to another type of outdoor yard lighting and that is rope lights.
They are a good light for decorating a deck or a patio.
They are easy to install and take down whenever you do not need them.
They can be hung just about anywhere, even on a gazebo or a trellis.
They can also provide additional light to an entertaining area and are attractive at the same time.
Another good use for rope lights is lighting up a driveway, especially in rural areas that do not have streetlights.
Most swimming pools already have a light built into them for night use but the areas around the pool can still be dark.
Using rope lights in areas surrounding the swimming pool is not only a safety feature but a tranquil area just for gathering or entertaining.
