Pride Is A Killer
Pride is one of seven deadly sins. It happens to be that a lot of people have some sort of pride within themselves. Usually, it can be someone who only cares about themselves and no one else. If you are selfish in certain ways, then your pride has gotten a hold of you. Pride takes you away from our Creator as it shows that you do not love God and it also does not make you aware of other people's cares.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (2094) states that the hatred of God comes from pride. It is contrary to love of God, whose goodness it denies, and whom it presumes to curse as the one who forbids sins and inflicts punishments. In other words, one can sin against God's love in various ways and this is one of them.
There are many bible verses and scriptures in the Holy Bible in regards to pride and that it is made clearly that God hates pride. Arrogance is another form of pride that God hates also. In our culture today, you see many people who are arrogant and full of pride that they do not realize that this sin is killing them. We also need to be check with ourselves in regards to pride. For instance, do you want more money? In reality, we should be content of what we have already.
Have you ever wondered how a football player felt when he made a 50-yard run to touchdown? Was he proud of himself? If so, then his pride had gotten in his way. If he acknowledged God for thanking him that the players were far off while he was rushing and running then his pride was in check. In other words, he did not give himself the chills for that awesome play but gave glory to God instead of himself, as it should be.
It is OK to be proud of someone else's accomplishments but need to remember that all good things that happen to a person comes from God, not just the person. God uses people as vessels to accomplish all good things that really do come from Him only. We need to keep that in mind at all times. Today, however, many people need to be more grateful and thankful for what God has given them. We need to do a better job in acknowledging God, our Creator in all things daily if possible. When we do not, then pride seems to set in a person in many ways. We do not want to do that. So remember, let us keep our pride in check.
